A house for fifteen on a hillside above the Sea of Cortez, fifteen minutes east of San José del Cabo. A great room with no walls, a pool in the desert, and a roof for the whales.
The house
Set among the cardón on a hillside lot in Laguna Hills, with the Sea of Cortez below and the desert behind, Casa Correcaminos was designed to bring an extended family or a wedding party together under one deep roof. The great room runs straight through the house, its glass walls sliding away on both sides so that the pool court and the open desert become extensions of the living room, and for most of the year the room has no walls at all. Across the balconies, a celosía of perforated concrete block filters the hard desert sun into a pattern that travels over the floors through the day. The roadrunners that cross the drive each morning were on the property before the house, and gave it its name.
The suites open onto patios of their own, the bunk room sleeps eight under its four queen beds, and a stair climbs to the roof terrace, where the whales pass below from December to April. Rough stone walls and a steel door mark the entry; the kitchen is built for a crowd and the long table outside seats everyone at once. The house runs on its own sun, with solar and batteries under a cast concrete roof, and is looked after by the people who built it.
Good to know
The house is made up during your stay, and fully turned over between guests. Nobody strips a bed here.

The whole house is yours, however many of the fifteen beds you fill. Rates move with the season, and we quote every stay with the request.

Around the house
Laguna Hills sits where the East Cape road leaves San José del Cabo, with the Sierra de la Laguna behind it and the Sea of Cortez in front. Los Cabos International Airport has direct flights from more than forty cities.
The East Cape road runs north from the gate to a beach where the surf breaks on an empty shore, and at that hour the only tracks on the sand are yours.
The reef at Cabo Pulmo, a national marine park an hour and a half up the coast, by panga from the beach or by car along the dirt road.
Back at the house for the long afternoon: the pool, the hot tub, bocce in the shade, and from December to April the whales passing below the roof terrace.
Fifteen minutes down the road, dinner at the long tables under the metal roof at Flora Farms, at the edge of the fields it is cooked from, designed by the same architect as the house.
